Welcome Derek Ihori - Director of Pupil Services
Derek possesses extensive experience and depth of knowledge in the field of special education. Derek comes to Las Virgenes from the neighboring Oak Park Unified School District where he has served as the District Program Specialist of Pupil Services since July of 2010. There he coordinated and administered the Special Education, Health Services and Home Hospital programs. He also conducted professional development trainings, drafted student assessments and support plans, conducted consultations with teachers, parents and administrators and participated in due process issues. Derek was instrumental in using relevant research and data to make comprehensively informed student plans and assessments in the Oak Park Unified School District. Derek has worked closely with our LVUSD special education team with Ventura County SELPA committees and operations cabinet.
Derek has built a solid professional resume working with students, families and educators, beginning with his work in 2004 as an In-Home Outreach Counselor with the Department of Children and Family Services. He then served as School Psychologist for the Saugus Union, Newhall, and Los Alamitos Unified School Districts and ably went on to his expanded role as Pupil Services Program Specialist with Oak Park Unified School District. He attended University of California, Irvine where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and Social Behavior with a Minor in Education. He received his Masters degree in Counseling (specializing in School Psychology) from California State University, Northridge. Derek earned his Doctorate in Educational Leadership with a Concentration in Educational Psychology from the University of Southern California.
