Among the key decisions that were taken up by the committees in the last two years were the recommendation of math pathways and acceleration options; recommendations for district-wide writing rubrics and K-8 writing resources; and identification of CCSS-aligned resources, including new math materials for evaluation and adoption. As we move into the new year, the committees will take up their important work again. This year, the ELA committee will work on developing a comprehensive list of recommended fiction and nonfiction reading options, aligned by grade, while the math committee will create a vertically articulated guide to the essential math concepts for student success. The work of these committees and their sub-committees, will be shared at both Grade Level Lead Meetings and Department Meetings. Committees for the core content areas of Science and Social Science will hold their initial meetings in the spring to begin to address shifts in content, instruction, materials and assessment.
