Technology End of Year + Summer Projects

With only a few days remaining in the school year I want to first thank you for your support this year - it has been awesome working with you!

A few important reminders for this summer:

  • Zimbra Email Delivery Shutdown: On July 1 we will be shutting down email delivery on Zimbra. If you have not done so already, now is the time to activate and start using your Google Account for all district communications. You will find easy instructions on activating your account and using Google Apps at http://glearn.lvusd.org
  • Aeries Rollover: We will be rolling Aeries over to the new school year on July 1 - one month earlier than usual. As of July 1, parents will be able to login and complete the annual re-registration process for their children.
  • ABI Shutdown: Since ABI is no longer supported by Aeries, we will also be shutting that service down on July 1. All teachers will use Aeries dot-net for attendance and grades next school year. We will send a follow-up email  with details, tutorials, and instructions as the new school year approaches.

In addition, we will be performing a number of configuration and design changes to our systems that should improve ease of use, reliability, and performance for the fall, including:

  • Wireless: We will be simplifying the method by which students, staff, and guests attach to the wireless, in an effort to make it easier for everyone to connect to and use the network.
  • Filtering: The existing filter (Smoothwall) will be replaced by a more flexible filtering solution, which we expect will perform better and be easier to use. Filters will be applied based on grade level, and will be bypass-able by staff using their LVUSD login. 
  • Networking: A variety of "under-the-hood" network systems improvements will be implemented, including increased Internet speeds for all school sites.

Please bear in mind that these changes may cause sporadic disruption of services over the summer, which we will do everything in our power to minimize. We will also do our best to provide advance warning of any down time.

Please be sure to take care of any district laptops/tablets you may have while you are away - don't leave them in your classroom or car over the summer. And if you need any technical assistance, feel free to call us at 818-878-5246 or submit a work order at http://whd.lvusd.org
